WEST HARTFORD, CONN. (September 17, 2018) – The Jewish Leadership Academy (JLA), a community resource for values-based leadership development in Greater Hartford, is hosting its annual Community Board Member Orientation on Monday, October 22nd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Mandell JCC Innovation Center, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This year’s workshop will feature nationally recognized speaker Nanette Fridman, principal of Fridman Strategies of Boston.
Known for her good humor and high energy, Nanette is a frequent keynote speaker, workshop presenter, trainer and facilitator. She is the author of On Board: What Current and Aspiring Board Members Must Know about Nonprofits & Board Service and writes and blogs regularly about management and leadership.
JLA’s Community Board Member Orientation is open to the public. While the topics are applicable to all nonprofit board members, the workshop will place emphasis on the boards of Jewish organizations. The evening will include an interactive training and discussion outlining the role of the board; exploring primary roles, responsibilities and expectation of board members; clarifying governance vs. management; articulating board goals and brainstorming potential board member challenges and solutions.
Heather Fiedler, the Academy’s Director, said, “This orientation is for board members of all experience levels. For some it may be an eye-opening look into board standards and for others it may be a refresher course, but we will all learn something new from Nanette.”
Alan Parker, Chair of the Jewish Leadership Academy, added that “breaking down silos and convening board members from Greater Hartford's synagogues and Jewish schools and organizations is another primary goal of the evening. We will work together to address common goals and challenges to strengthen our collective future.”
The cost of the program is $18 per person. Please mail payment to Jewish Leadership Academy, Attn: Board Orientation, 333 Bloomfield Avenue, Suite C, West Hartford CT 06117 or RSVP to info@jlahartford.org and pay at the door.
