The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford is horrified by the brutal violence committed by Jewish terrorists last week in the vicinity of Nablus in the West Bank. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Dawabsheh family over the tragic death of 18-month old Ali.
This horrendous act of terrorism has been strongly denounced by Israeli leaders across the political and religious spectrum. Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, called Palestinian President, Mahmud Abbas, saying "it's upon us to together fight terror, no matter which side perpetrates it."
In a separate incident, one 16-year old Israeli girl was stabbed to death, and five others injured by a man police described as an ultra-Orthodox extremist. He had been previously imprisoned and recently released for an attack on a similar gathering.
We condemn these and other extremist and terrorist attacks in Israel and the West Bank and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We pray for a speedy recovery for all those involved and for swift justice against the perpetrators of these crimes.
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin recently said that it is not a time to succumb to, "shock and anger. This is a time to join together." We agree and seek peaceful solutions to the extremism and terror that plague our world. Such acts do not represent core Jewish values and those of Israel and her people, which we so strongly advocate for on behalf of the greater community.
