The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut will meet on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 1:30 pm at JGSCT's home, Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington, CT 06111. The program is free and open to everyone interested in Jewish genealogy.

Irene Levin Berman will present "We Are Going To Pick Potatoes," her memoir of the Holocaust in Scandinavia.

In 1942, four-year old Irene Levin was one of 1,200 Norwegian Jews who escaped Sweden to avoid deportation to a Nazi death camp.

Her family was among 2,000 Jews living in Norway during the German invasion on April 9, 1940.

771 Norwegian Jews were sent to Auschwitz. Only 28 men survived.
Irene will share information about the Jews of Norway, and about her family. Her presentation will portray the difficult events and include details about the journey to escape, and how so many managed to avoid being captured.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut houses its library at Temple Sinai. JGSCT members may borrow items other than reference books and materials which do not circulate, from the library collection.
