The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut will host Lara Diamond at JGSCT's home, Temple Sinai, 41 West Hartford Road, Newington, CT 06111. The program is free and open to everyone interested in Jewish genealogy.

In her presentation, Jewish Genealogical Research in Ukraine, Lara Diamond will share various strategies used to get documents from in Ukraine, including hiring researchers privately, crowdsourcing research for specific towns, and utilizing the Family History Library's resources. Many of these strategies should be applicable to much of Eastern Europe.

The talk includes demonstrations of the wide variety of document types available for different parts of Ukraine (including those parts formerly in the Russian Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire and Poland) allowing you to both trace your family back generations and to gain an understanding of the people they were.

Lara Diamond is President of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Maryland (JGSMD) and has been researching her family for 25 years. She has traced all branches of her family back to Europe and most multiple generations back in Europe using Russian Empire-era and Austria-Hungarian Empire records. Most of her research is in modern-day Ukraine, with a smattering of Belarus and Poland.

She recently took over running JewishGen's Subcarpathia SIG and in addition runs several town-focused projects to collect documentation to assist all those researching ancestors from common towns. She blogs about her mostly Eastern European research at http://larasgenealogy.blogspot.com.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Connecticut houses its library at Temple Sinai. JGSCT members may borrow items other than reference books and materials, which do not circulate, from the library collection.
