Hartford Jewish Film Festival: Hartford Premiere: Big Sonia
English, 94 minutes
Documentary , USA 2016
Director Leah Warshawski
Sonia's larger-than-life personality masks the unspeakable horrors she has endured in her 90+ years. A Holocaust survivor, she survived a series of death marches and concentration camps and witnessed her mother walk into the gas chambers. When the war ended and liberation day came, Sonia was accidentally shot in the chest, but not only did she survive, she became the ultimate survivor. Sonia is one of the last remaining survivors in Kansas City and one of the only who publically speaks about her ordeal and she inspires everyone she meets to listen to her.
