On October 10, Yale Professor of History Dr. David Sorkin will address our congregation and the community on the subject of “Faith Divided: The Jewish Encounter with Modern Life.” He will focus on the Jews of Prussia in the first half of the Nineteenth Century and how modernization affected their lives and choices as Jews. This event is for the purposes of education, and in anticipation of the staged reading of a new Ben Engel play, “Havdalah [Separation]”, which addresses itself to similar subject matter in dramatic form. The staged reading will be November 7, also at the Emanuel.
