How Environmental Reporting Reframed How I Talk about Israel

A community forum with journalist Rachel Benaim

Climate change and water resources are the most important factor in the current geopolitics of the Middle East. At this community program, award-winning journalist Rachel Delia Benaim of weather.com will give us a closer look at water resources and climate change in Israel and their implications for regional geopolitics.

 

About the Guest Speaker

Rachel Delia Benaim is an award-winning journalist whose reporting has appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian and Tablet magazine, among others. She currently serves as a climate change editor at weather.com and is the only Israel-based foreign correspondent covering climate change. Her work for weather.com has received awards from the New York Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists. Ms. Benaim traveled to Israel and the Palestinian Territories to cover the 2014 conflict, where her reporting was featured in The Washington Post, Religion News Service and The Washington Jewish Week. From 2015 to 2016, she served as a breaking news editor at Haaretz.

 

Ms. Benaim is also an interfaith activist and founder of the Muslim Jewish Interfaith Coalition, which serves to heal the fractures between people of the two faiths on a global scale. In the last few years she has also investigated the life and history of Jews from Arab lands through the late 20th century for the American Sephardic Federation’s Diarna Project.

 

A Jerusalem resident, Ms. Benaim holds a B.A. from Yeshiva University and an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University.
