A Living Bridge: Welcome Our Israeli Young Emissaries!

Friends, since I am out of town this Shabbat, I have asked Heather Fiedler, our Federation's Associate Vice President of Jewish Education and Leadership, to share with you some exciting news about our Israeli Young Emissaries for 2016-2017. I hope you will have the opportunity to meet them soon. Shabbat Shalom. - Howard

Each year, our community hosts two Israeli teens who have completed high school and are taking a year for volunteer work before beginning their Israeli military service. These Israeli Young Emissaries spend their time interacting with children and adults in local day schools, synagogue schools, early childhood programs and university Hillels - as well as in many other community organizations. Their impact is both broad and deep. While they bring Israel to us, we bring American Judaism to them. During and after their time in Greater Hartford, these incredible young people build living bridges between our local Jewish community and our Partership2Gether sisters and brothers in the Afula/Gilboa region of Israel.

Despite their youth, our Young Emissaries for 2016-2017, Noam Hoffman and Eliav Batito, already have many accomplishments to their names. Noam is a very talented dancer and Eliav is the immediate past chair of Israel's National Student and Youth Council. Both are warm and enthusiastic, and we know they will capture your hearts! You can follow Eliav and Noam on Facebook here and watch a video they made for us here.

To learn more about the Young Emissaries program, please contact Ronny Siegel, our Young Emissary Coordinator, at mailto:rsiegel@jewishhartford.org or 860-727-6150. The program is made possible by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and the Southern New England Consortium (SNEC).

Shabbat Shalom!

Heather
