The best way to understand Israel is through the people who call it home. That’s why Federation is thrilled to welcome Shira, an Israeli emissary (shlicha) who will spend the next two years helping our community experience Israel not as a distant idea, but as a place of real people, stories, and shared values. Building on our deep ties to the Afula-Gilboa region and Kibbutz Sufa, Shira represents another way we keep Israel close. She comes to us through the Jewish Agency for Israel's emissary program and will visit synagogues, schools, and organizations throughout Greater Hartford, sharing Israeli culture and perspectives. Her time with us is made possible through the support of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, and the generosity of our donors.

In Shira’s note below, you will learn more about her and what she hopes to bring to our community.

Shalom everyone,

I'm so excited to join your community as the new Jewish Agency shlicha for the next two years. My mission is to build a strong, meaningful bridge between Greater Hartford and Israel—through culture, dialogue, and shared experiences. I look forward to collaborating with organizations throughout the community and strengthening our connection to Israel.

First, a little bit about me: I'm originally from central Israel, near Tel Aviv. I'm very close with my family, love traveling the world, reading, and spending time with dogs! I come from an educational background with experience in community-based programming, and I hold a bachelor's degree in education and society.

I'm truly excited to get involved, meet all of you, and be part of this incredible community. A quote that inspires me also feels appropriate to the work ahead:

"Never stop dreaming."

Looking forward to meeting you all and deepening our community connections!

Shira
