The Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life at UConn will be hosting a performance of Savyon Liebrecht's play, The Strawberry Girl, followed by a dialogue led by the play's director, Guy Ben-Aharon.
In a vivid and evocative one-woman show, a German woman's life outside a "factory" in Poland makes you question how far you'd go to ignore the truth. “Nuanced and expressive without being either distant or maudlin, Carroll’s performance captures the ignorant curiosity of this character, rendering a psychologically compelling account.”
You will be left wondering about the complicity of the characters you've discovered. What they know, what they don't know, and what they hide.
The Strawberry Girl deals with the confrontation of blissful ignorance and a tragic personal intimacy. It brings up jarring questions about our responsibility in modern times vis-à-vis the Syrian refugee crisis.
