Opening of the photography exhibit - Jewish Hartford. Our Community. Our Stories. For more than four decades, photographer Steven Laschever has been capturing the spirit of Connecticut through his lens — from social gatherings and cultural performances to quiet portraits of individuals who shape our communities. Among his most enduring subjects has been the Jewish community of Greater Hartford, which he has documented from the early days of Camp Shalom to the present day. Starting in May 2024 we set out to photograph individuals who reflect the varied and vibrant tapestry of our community. These images — shot in meaningful locations from synagogues to supermarkets, classrooms to kitchens, parks and playgrounds — serve not only as portraits, but as living stories. Each tableau is a window into the lived experiences, traditions, and contributions that define Jewish life in our region.
