The way we die is one of the most important conversations to have, and many of us avoid it. Talking about death is not easy, but the creators of "Death Over Dinner" believe that this conversation ultimately helps us affirm who we are and what we care most about, and leaves us better able to navigate and appreciate the fullness of life.

In this breakfast workshop retitled "Death Over Danish", we will be following the resources and tools from the original creators, and inviting Rabbi Ilana Garber to transform this potentially difficult conversation into one of deep engagement, insight and empowerment that everyone can be a part of. Whether you are a Jewish insider, on the margins or Jewish-adjacent, we welcome you to tap into some age-old Jewish wisdom around grieving and ritual, living and dying.

Rabbi Ilana C. Garber is the Senior Director of Rabbinic Leadership for the Rabbinical Assembly, a global membership organization of over 1,600 rabbis who are associated with the Conservative/Masorti Movement of Judaism. Previously, she served the synagogue community of Beth El Temple (West Hartford, CT) for fifteen years.

Passionate about the mikveh, she wrote the curriculum to train mikveh guides for Boston’s Mayyim Hayyim: Living Waters Community Mikveh. Currently she serves on the boards of Greater Hartford’s Mikveh Bess Israel and the Interim Ministry Network.

Trained by the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA), Rabbi Garber is a certified death doula. She facilitates Death Over Dinner (or Danish) Jewish Edition conversations for groups locally and virtually.
