Mitnick Jewish Education Conference

Sunday, November 15, 2009 | Register Today!

The annual Deborah & Morton Mitnick Jewish Education Conference is an opportunity for Jewish educators in the Greater Hartford area to come together for the purpose of professional development and community building.

Past scholars have included Rabbi Stuart Kelman, Rabbi Edward Feinstein, Debbie Friedman and Rabbi Sandy Eisenberg Sasso.

This year’s Mitnick Mix or Match will feature nationally known presenters on the subjects of Visual Arts, Technology, Differentiated Learning, Values and Character, Hebrew and Torah Lishma.

The track for teen madrichim, titled RUA | LDR? There’s an app for that!, focuses on the teen’s role as a Jewish leader.

Partially supported by a grant from the Deborah & Morton Mitnick Jewish Education Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, this conference honors Deborah and Morton Mitnick, Greater Hartford Jewish residents who shared a love for learning and education. They had no children of their own, but were extremely devoted to their nieces and nephews. Their niece, Ronne Hess of Birmingham, Alabama, created this Jewish education fund in their memory allowing their generosity and dedication to the Greater Hartford Jewish community to live on.

Professional Learning Communities

This year teachers in Jewish Day Schools in Greater Hartford and Western MA have the opportunity to participate with each other in Professional Learning Communities (PLC).

A PLC is defined as a collegial group of people, typically led by a facilitator, who are united in their commitment to improving their practice.  Teachers will be meeting at different schools, four times over the course of the year as they build community and improve their teaching.

The PLC topics this year include: Science in the Early Childhood Classroom, Experiential Jewish Education in the Early Childhood Classroom and Technology in the Classroom.
