Israel Programs

The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford makes it possible for thousands of Greater Hartford young adults to experience their Jewish homeland – and come home as committed Jews – through many programs under guide of the Commission on Jewish Education & Leadership.

It’s a fact: Federation Israel Program alumni consider themselves more connected to the Jewish people and to Israel, are more interested in exploring their Jewish identity, have a deeper understanding of the situation in Israel and make plans to return.

Passport to Israel

One of the most effective ways of building Jewish commitment among our youth is through a powerful educational experience in Israel. But in this economy, families committed to sending their children on a trip to Israel can face a heavy financial burden.

Passport to Israel is a cooperative incentive savings program in which families, congregations and the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford each contribute funds toward an educational program in Israel for participating students.

For more information and for a list of requirements, contact Anna Elfenbaum at (860) 727-6136.

March of the Living

The March of the Living is an international, educational program bringing Jewish teens from all over the world to Poland on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II, and then to Israel to observe Yom HaZikaron, Israel Memorial Day, and Yom Ha'Atzmaut, Israel Independence Day.

The goal of the March of the Living is for these young people to learn the lessons of the Holocaust and to lead the Jewish people into the future vowing “Never Again.”

For more information, contact Anna Elfenbaum at (860) 727-6136 or visit March of the Living.

Young Emissaries

Greater Hartford is fortunate to have the SNEC Israeli Young Emissaries in our community each year. Having deferred their army service for one year in order to bring Israel to us, the Young Emissaries live with host families over the course of the year and work in our schools, synagogues and agencies.

For information on hosting the Young Emissaries, or if you, your school, synagogue or agency would like to invite them to speak, or to create a program, contact Anna Elfenbaum at (860) 727-6136.
